So after many weeks of hiatus I finally finished a 400 page book. I've read a lot by the way, most of them Harlequin by different authors, but none I found worth sharing. It didn't pass my standards to put it bluntly. So Promise Of The Rose was a prequel of all the De Warenne Dynasty I've read. It dates back to the year 1176. What's interesting about the book was the author, Brenda Joyce spent time researching all things about 11th century, she may have unearthed important data that she used in this book. I mean she already wrote the book when she found out about the similarities she just researched about the book's characters. This information alone makes you want to browse and start reading this masterpiece. Mary, the heroine, came up headstrong on the first few pages of the book. One would think she wouldn't surrender to the charm of Stephen de Warenne. It's like Romeo and Juliet. Mary was brought up to hate the Normans, which Stephen was. And Stephen when ordered by the King to make Scotland their subject. But as what every love story in a pocketbook. She fell in love, hook line and sinker. I was astonished on their first meeting. Brenda Joyce was so graphic, even the slight movement of the characters' clothing, she described it vividly. I will not elaborate, find out for yourself :) Mary falling in love with Stephen catapulted the war between two countries. Her allegiance was questioned and tested. It just brought tears to Mary and Stephen a broken heart. Mary was so young, only 16. But she acted as though she was in her 20's. She was so mature and very loyal. Stephen wanted that loyalty to him. He was so impressed by this trait of Mary. I love how she whispered on Stephen's ears when he wouldn't sleep in her bed chamber. "I'm your wife", completely naked underneath. Hehehe. Over all it was a good read, although I wish Brenda described Stephen's feelings to Mary differently other than giving her a rose on his crest. And of course other than his lust for her. There were a lot of "kilig" moments. Especially when Mary gets jealous. She first showed jealousy when she caught Stephen philandering with a maid. May pinagmanahan si Rex de Warenne. Rex was Lady Blanche's partner and brother of Tyrell. Of course Tyrelle, si TDW na favorite nating "Masquerade". Sana nakaka follow pa kayo :) MC and her friend Sam (?) recommended this book. Thank you. I don't regret spending hours on this one. The de Warenne dynasty is indeed a good read. Great for your collection. So I hope you find time buying this book. As always, Brenda impressed me again. Until my next Bjoyce :)
