My new pharmacy manager talked to me today about my schedule. How I'm liking the environment, etc. Then she told me she has high expectations because I'm replacing her right hand Senior Technician. I was honest with her that I was not looking for a full time position, that I applied at another company and I really wanted it. But I still want to continue working with her per diem. The drive and hours are perfect for me. I did not explain why, but she got it.She said family comes first and she understands. I told her in that company they would pay me $2 more. I was surprised that she offered to negotiate. She said if she can talk to the manager and negotiate my pay rate as to what was offered to me in that company. She asked if I would reconsider working full time with her. I did not know how to react, I felt like I was really an asset and she did not want to let me go. I have only worked for a few days. She said she likes my attitude and what my previous manager told her about me over the phone.
What I learned today, companies want to hire people with good attitude. They are willing to let go of even their greatest assets and train new people with the right attitude. New hires can learn tasks easily but a bad attitude is not something you can just change in a snap of a finger or when your boss asks you to. Companies want their employees to share what they know to other colleagues. Learn to work as one, one team. Aside from having the initiative, one of my strengths is sharing what I know. Once I figured out or learned something new from my job, I make it a point to share it with my coworkers. There are people who would keep it to themselves, their reason? Job security. The more they know, the more companies would not let them go. For they are the only ones who know how to get things done. That is what they think. I learned that companies want real assets, not people who are selfish and only care for themselves. You would think that by now, people would have learned what our parents taught us when we were young. Sharing is caring.
There are different people in a workplace. . I want to be someone a hiring manager would be proud of and that he did not make a mistake in hiring me. I heard my previous manager would accept me back in a heartbeat if I decided to go back.. That's something every employee wants to hear. Also, that one was a team player.
